Newer subdivisions and the older streets near the river
The subdivisions off Highway 69 North and Rose Boulevard are mostly vinyl two-stories built since the 1990s, with a concrete drive, a front walk and a rear patio slab. Those houses show grime the same way every time: a grey-green haze on the shaded side, black mildew spots under the eaves and gutters, and a dirty band along the bottom course of siding where red clay splashes up in a hard rain. The soft wash handles the siding and the eaves in one pass, and the concrete gets a surface cleaner so it comes back one even color instead of striped.
Closer to downtown Northport and the river, the houses are older, and more of them are brick, painted wood or a mix. Brick wants a different approach than vinyl: a mortar joint that is ninety years old does not need high pressure on it, so we clean brick with the right detergent and a rinse that leaves the joints alone. Painted wood siding gets the gentlest treatment of all, because old paint will lift if you push it.
Northport keeps its own public works department, and if a wash is going to send runoff toward a storm drain on a city street we follow the city's stormwater guidance on where that water goes. In practice that means we pre-wet the lawn and beds, catch what we can, and keep the detergent off the pavement that drains to the street.
Vinyl siding, pollen film and what each one needs
From March into May, a yellow film settles on every porch, deck, car and screen in Northport. On vinyl siding it mixes with the humidity into a sticky layer that holds the next round of mildew. People often wait until the pollen stops, which is fine, but it means the dirtiest weeks are also the busiest ones. We work Monday through Saturday, 7am to 6pm, and answer quote requests the same day. The spring calendar fills fastest for the subdivisions north of the river.
Vinyl is the easiest surface to ruin with a rented machine. High pressure held too close scars the panels and forces water into the wall cavity, where it sits behind the house wrap. Our siding wash runs at garden-hose pressure with a cleaner that does the work, then a rinse from the top down. It is the siding wash we run most in Northport, and it is the one we recommend before you think about repainting trim or replacing a panel that is probably just dirty.
Lake houses on the east side bring their own list. Docks, boathouse decking and wood steps down to the water grey out fast in the humidity, and the treated lumber usually just needs a proper wash and a day to dry before it looks like wood again.
What we wash in Northport
House washing is the main call: vinyl, brick, Hardie and painted siding, soft-washed and rinsed. Roof cleaning takes the black streaks off asphalt shingles with the same low-pressure method, since the streaks are algae and not dirt. Driveways, sidewalks, patios and pool decks get a surface cleaner and a rinse. Decks and fences, especially the privacy fences that line the subdivision lots, get a wood-safe wash that does not fuzz the grain.
Gutter cleaning is the job people forget until water pours over the front door. We clear the gutters and downspouts by hand and flush them, and if you are already having the house washed, clearing gutters before the fall leaves is worth adding to the same visit.

Questions we get
Will a house wash hurt the azaleas and shrubs around a Northport house?
Not if it is done right. We soak the beds with plain water before we start, keep the cleaner off the leaves as we work, and rinse the plants again when the wall is done. The soft-wash detergent is diluted and neutralized by that rinse. Tell us about anything delicate, like a new planting, and we cover it.
How often does a vinyl house in Northport need washing?
Most houses on the shaded or north-facing lots want it every year or two, and the ones in full sun go longer. The river and lake humidity on this side of the county brings the green back faster than it does in drier parts of the state. If the north wall is showing a haze, it is time.
Do you clean the docks and boathouses on the Lake Tuscaloosa side?
Yes. Dock decking, boathouse boards and the wood steps down to the water all grey out in the humidity and clean up well with a wood-safe wash. We keep the detergent out of the lake by rinsing toward the bank and using the least amount of cleaner the job needs.
